Personal advice
on individual investments.

We draw on BlackRock’s institutional investment perspectives alongside our own research and judgement to develop personal investment recommendations.

You stay involved. We provide the ideas, analysis and personal recommendations.

You deal directly with your adviser
Predominantly individual equities

What happens when you become a client?

We want to understand what you’re looking to achieve, your circumstances, the investments you already hold and the level of risk you’re comfortable taking. Just as importantly, we want to know what interests you and how involved you’d like to be.

Then, we look for ideas that suit you.

BlackRock — the global perspective

BlackRock’s published investment perspectives help us understand the economic forces, market themes and opportunities shaping global markets.

We draw on its investment outlooks, market commentary and portfolio insights to inform our thinking.

Investment outlooks
BlackRock’s published views on the economic and market forces shaping the months ahead.
Market commentary
Weekly analysis of what is moving markets, and what to watch next.
Portfolio insights
Its published views on positioning across asset classes, set out in its outlooks and commentary.

Synergy Markets — our research and judgement

We then investigate individual investment opportunities using our own fundamental analysis, Trade Now and Nautilus.

We bring those findings together with your objectives, existing investments and appetite for risk to develop personal recommendations.

Fundamental analysis
The business, its cash flow and its valuation.
Trade Now
Helps us find companies that meet our research conditions.
Nautilus
Examines potential turning points in share prices.

Our research informs the recommendation. Your circumstances shape it. The decision remains yours.

BlackRock does not provide Synergy with individual-share recommendations. Trade Now and Nautilus are research tools. What they find is not a forecast or a recommendation.

How our research works →

Advice that works around your investments.

01

Discover new investment opportunities

When our research finds a company worth your attention, we bring it to you: the case for it, the risks, and how it would fit with what you already hold.

02

Make more of the investments you already own

Bring us a share or bond you’re weighing up. Whether you’re thinking of adding to it, taking profits or selling, we look at it alongside the rest of your portfolio and recommend what to do.

03

Combine personal advice with managed investing

Hold the shares we advise on alongside model portfolios managed by BlackRock, recommended for you where suitable, and stay as involved as you choose.

Managed Portfolios →

Two ways to use our advice.

Frank and Sam are illustrations, not clients.

You bring it

Frank: “I already have a portfolio. I want someone I can call when something changes.”

He might call us about a holding that has moved, a change at a company he owns, or a new investment he is considering.

We research it, weigh it against what he already holds and give him a personal recommendation. Sometimes that is to do nothing.

We bring it

Sam: “I invest actively and want good ideas.”

When our research turns up a company worth discussing, we bring it to Sam and explain the case for it and the risks.

If it suits her, we make a personal recommendation, including how much we think she should invest.

She decides whether to act.

What Investment Advice costs.

You pay for advice when you deal on it, subject to an annual minimum of £500. There is no separate charge for a conversation.

Advice and dealing
Our charge on each advised transaction is worked out in bands, so the larger the transaction, the lower the overall rate:First £10,000 of the transaction — 1.00%The next £40,000 — 0.50%Above £50,000 — 0.25%Minimum charge — £50It applies to each advised transaction that goes ahead.
The £500 annual minimum

Our charges on advised transactions and on transactions you instruct yourself count towards it, and so do our fees on a managed portfolio, if you have one.

If they come to less than £500 in a year (counted from the date you sign your client agreement), you pay the difference at the end of that year. You do not have to trade, and we will not recommend a transaction just to reach the minimum.

The minimum does not by itself mean that we monitor your portfolio or keep checking that your investments still suit you. Where a service includes a regular suitability review, as a Managed Portfolio does, we set that out separately in writing.

Orders without advice
As a client, you can also give us an order without advice, for shares, bonds and funds that the FCA’s rules treat as non-complex. We place it without making a recommendation or checking whether it suits you; this is called execution-only. It costs £50 for each transaction carried out, whatever its size (see Costs & Charges). If you want our view first, that is advice.

We advise you. We never hold your money or your investments.

Examples, not quotes. Each is one advised transaction. The charge is worked out in bands, so each band applies only to the part of the transaction within it, and the minimum charge is £50.

Third-party costs are separate from Synergy’s charge and are shown to you before you deal: any platform dealing charge, and stamp duty where it applies to a UK share purchase.

Costs & Charges sets out every charge in full.
