Costs and charges.

You should be able to see what you pay us before you decide anything, and you should be able to tell our money apart from everybody else’s.

This page sets out what Synergy charges. Where other firms charge for their part of an arrangement, we say so, and we are clear about which money we keep and which simply passes through.

Managed Portfolios

In a Managed Portfolio, the day-to-day investment decisions are delegated: your account follows one of the model portfolios managed by BlackRock — a separately regulated investment manager — through the Transact – BlackRock Model Portfolio Service (MPS). Synergy advises you, assesses whether the arrangement is suitable, recommends the model, and remains your adviser.

Amount managed
Annual Synergy fee on that part
First £250,000

Next £750,000 — from £250,000 to £1,000,000
0.75%
Above £1,000,000
0.50%

Each rate applies only to the part of the portfolio that falls in that band. A £1,500,000 portfolio is charged 1.00% on the first £250,000, 0.75% on the next £750,000 and 0.50% on the next £500,000, which comes to £10,625 for the year.

  • There is no standard Synergy initial charge where you proceed.
  • The normal minimum investment for the service is £25,000. This is our own service minimum, not a regulatory one.

What this fee is, and what it is not

The percentages above are Synergy’s own charge, for being your adviser on the arrangement. They are not the total cost of running the portfolio.

Other costs of the Managed Portfolio

A Managed Portfolio normally also carries costs that we do not receive and do not keep. For Managed Portfolios — model portfolios managed by BlackRock — they are:

Platform chargeTransact
Transact’s annual charge is banded, not a single rate, and it works differently above and below £100,000. For a portfolio under £100,000, Transact charges 0.50% a year on the first £60,000 and 0.26% on the rest. Once a portfolio averages £100,000 or more over a month, the whole of it is charged on a lower scale: 0.26% a year on the first £600,000, 0.17% on the next £600,000, 0.07% between £1,200,000 and £5,000,000, and 0.05% above that. At £100,000 the platform charge is £260 a year; just below £100,000 it is about £404. Where Transact’s rules allow, and on your Synergy investment adviser’s request, the portfolios of immediate family members — and family trusts or companies Transact accepts — can be linked for this purpose; Transact then works out its charge on the combined amount, which can mean a lower rate. For example, where two eligible linked family members each hold £50,000, Transact can treat the linked holdings as £100,000 when working out its charge, so the lower scale applies. Whether holdings can be linked is decided by Transact under its own rules, not by Synergy, and unrelated clients cannot be linked. Linking affects Transact’s charge only: each person remains a client in their own right, with their own advice. Source: Transact Charges Schedule, version 42, June 2026.

Investment advice

When you act on our advice and a transaction goes through, we charge in bands: 1.00% on the first £10,000 of the transaction, 0.50% on the next £40,000, and 0.25% above £50,000 — with a minimum charge of £50. The larger the transaction, the lower the effective rate.

Where one recommendation is executed in stages, all the executions in that security within five business days are charged together, as one transaction on the combined amount.

That is the whole of it. There is no separate charge for meeting us, none for producing a recommendation, and none based on the size of your portfolio.

Up to £5,000 the £50 minimum applies — at exactly £5,000, 1.00% comes to £50. Above that, the bands govern, and each band applies only to the part of the transaction inside it.

When our advice is to do nothing

Often the right advice is not to act: to hold what you have, to wait, or not to buy something you were considering. That is proper advice and we give it with the same care as any other.

It carries no charge. Our transaction charge arises only when a transaction is actually executed.

We think that is the right way round. It does mean something worth knowing, though: the years in which you pay us least may be the years in which we were most useful to you. That is one of the reasons the annual minimum below exists.

When the decision is yours

Sometimes a client has their own idea. You have done your own thinking, you are not looking for a recommendation from us, and you would like us to place the transaction. Where we can properly accept an instruction on that basis, the charge is £50 for each transaction that goes through.

This is not a separate service, and it is not a way of becoming a client of Synergy. It is something that happens from time to time inside an existing advice relationship. Whether a transaction was advised or your own decision is settled at the time, by what actually happened between us — not chosen afterwards, and not chosen by whichever charge is lower.

The annual minimum

Across a charging year — the twelve months from the date you sign your client agreement, and each twelve months after that — Synergy’s charges on your Investment Advice relationship come to at least £500.

The £500 is not added on top of what you have already paid us. It is the floor: charges on advised transactions, charges on transactions you directed yourself and, if you also have a managed portfolio, Synergy’s managed-portfolio fees all count towards it. If they reach £500, there is nothing further to pay. If they fall short, the difference is payable at the end of the year. If you join or leave part-way through a year, the minimum is reduced in proportion. Not another £500; one relationship, one floor.

If your relationship with us is Managed-only, the minimum does not apply at all; if you later act on our advice, or instruct a transaction yourself, for the first time, the minimum starts from that month, reduced in proportion for the rest of that year, and your managed-portfolio fees for the year count towards it.

Money paid to other firms does not count towards it — platform charges, a discretionary manager’s charge, the costs inside funds, dealing costs and taxes are not ours.

It is a minimum level of charges, not a target for activity:

  • It does not require you to trade, and we will not recommend a transaction in order to reach it.
  • It does not buy a set number of recommendations, reviews, meetings or calls.
  • It does not by itself mean we are continuously monitoring your portfolio or continuously reassessing whether your investments remain suitable. Where a periodic suitability assessment applies — as with a Managed Portfolio — we set that out separately and in writing.

Using advice and a Managed Portfolio together

You have one relationship with Synergy. Some of your money may sit under Investment Advice, where each decision remains yours; where it suits you, other assets may sit in a Managed Portfolio, where the day-to-day decisions are delegated — the model portfolio your account follows is managed by BlackRock, under its own regulatory responsibility. We are your adviser across both.

Using both does not create two minimums. There is one relationship and one £500 floor, and charges from both count towards it.

Worked examples

Real situations are easier to follow than formulas. Each of these assumes a single charging year. The first examples show Synergy’s own charges; the four at the end of this section show the whole yearly cost of a Managed Portfolio, every component separated.

The effective percentage shows Synergy’s annual fee as a percentage of the whole amount managed. Your actual charge is calculated using the marginal bands above.

Assumes a single General Investment Account (GIA) of this value throughout the year in the Growth 60 model, no payments in or out, held by one person and not linked to any family portfolio, Transact’s charges from its Charges Schedule (version 42, June 2026), fund charges as at 30 September 2026, and Synergy’s fee at the published tariff. Each total includes the underlying funds’ transaction-cost estimate; separate dealing charges, any foreign-exchange charge and taxes are additional and are not included — your personalised illustration shows them. In a Stocks & Shares ISA the wrapper fee is £12 a year.

Dealing charges when the model is bought or rebalanced are additional and are shown in your personalised illustration.

Costs charged by other firms

There are two kinds of money in any investment arrangement: what you pay us, and what you pay others. We keep the first. We do not keep the second.

Depending on the service and the investments used, the second may include platform and account charges, a discretionary investment manager’s charges, charges inside funds and other investments, dealing costs, market taxes and duties, and other third-party costs. Before you go ahead with anything, you receive the relevant cost disclosure for that service or investment, with real figures.

If anything here is unclear, ask us.

We would much rather explain a charge twice than have you come across it once, unexpectedly.

Charges are set out before you proceed in any case. Nothing on this page replaces the specific cost information you receive for your own arrangement.

Investments can fall as well as rise.

Still have a question about what this would cost for you?
